Philosophy
My practice of chiropractic medicine is based on a holistic philosophy which defines health not strictly as a physical phenomenon, but rather as multi-faceted: comprised of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental aspects.

Everything about our lives affects our health:
• what we eat, drink and breathe
• how we exercise, relax and sleep
• how we feel about relationships, work and the state of the world.

My focus is on you as a whole person, not simply on your particular pain or illness. We work together to enable you to take take an active role in developing and implementing a treatement plan that resonates with your coping strategies and unique abilities.

Such a treatment plan may include a variety of chiropractic techniques (see below for descriptions) as well as recommendations for stretching and exercise programs, nutritional supplements, dietary modifications, homeopathic remedies, etc. It is my goal to provide you with a healing environment; an environment in which – working together – we can make a major impact on the quality of your life.

Chiropractic
Chiropractic treatment affects the alignment of the joints in the spine and extremities, through direct gentle force, blocking, or range of motion techniques that help restore its proper function. The body’s structure can be affected by improper eating habits, poor posture, repetitive actions, unequal weight bearing, all which can lead to adaptive compensations which create more stress in the system and, then eventually, pain.

TBM: Total Body Modification
TBM is a method through which the status of the musculoskeletal system and the funtioning of internal organs can be evaluated and treated. Imbalance in the body’s energy systems and physiological processes can be evaluated and treated before serious problems arise. Our bodies fuction very much like an intricate computer system. We retain an energy pattern on a physical level of all events in our lives, as well as genetic or environmental predispositions to certain conditions. TBM helps identify and clear these patterns.

TBM deals with the body’s bio-computer and its programs. If the body’s programs are running too fast or too slowly, pathology can develop. TBM facilitates the flow of energy by balancing the physical/emotional/energy body by using intact muscles and body access points which read the functional programs of the body. Then by gentle manipulations or vertebral corrections, the body can return to normal, healthy functioning.

Applied Kinesiology (muscle testing)
Applied Kinesiiology, also known as “muscle testing” is a technique in which the body is used as a channel through which it relates information about its own condition. Chiropractic research has shown the human body to be a computer made up of the brain (electrical generator and memory bank) and hundreds of miles of electrical wires called nerves. These nerves connect every organ, gland and tissue of the body. These nerves also connect with fuses or breaker switches called Contact Relexes. By contacting these reflexes and using the body’s muscular system as an indicator, we are able to monitor the function of body systems.

We can also evaluate muscle function for a specific joint and re-establish better facilitation of movement for the joint. By using simple stimulation to the origin and insertion of a particular muscle, normal functioning is re-established.

Bowen
The Bowen technique, which was developed in Australia, helps promote healing, pain relief, correction of subluxations and the recovery of energy. The system uses a series of gentle, connective tissue manipulative procedures which are designed to realign the body, and balance and stimulate energy flows, thus empowering the body’s own healing process. These adjustments are precise, gentle moves performed on specific points of soft tissue and congruent with points on the meridian system. The body then makes subtle adjustments which help relieve tension, reduce pain, and initiate the healing process.

One possible theory of the underlying mechanism of Bowen is the resonance model demonstrated by stringed instruments. The body is like an intricate musical instrument that requires adequate tuning for corrrect function. The study of sound in relation to healing suggests that specific frequencies affect particular parts of the body. Therefore it is possible that by generating the same vibrational pattern that corresponds to particular areas of the body. The body then attempts to alter its vibration to match these ideal vibrational patterns and in doing so, brings itself to more harmony and balance.

Biokinetics
Biokinetics is a simple but effective technique for alleviating nerve interference. By locating dysfuntional neuroceptors throughout the entire body and by a specific gentle correction, the brain/body function can corrrect itself and thereby restore health. Research has shown that the brain functions much like a battery, storing energy generated by specialized nerve cells called neuroceptors. These receptors are located in joints, muscles, skin and organs, and are stimulated by physical activity.

Damage to muscles, weakness in internal organ, and emotional trauma can permanently disrupt the functions of the neuro-receptors, which in turn disrupt the function of the entire body. Biokinetics provides a gentle corrective stimulation into specific densely populated beds of neuro-receptors. This stimulatin clears the pathways and re-establishes proper communication and function.

Crainial-Sacral Therapy
The skull is made up of several intricately fitting bones that move slightly with each breath. The brain pulses at a continuous rhythm of 6-12 cycles per minute. If this gets disrupted by trauma, dental work, or traumatic birth history, adverse symptoms can develop. And may result in facial, jaw, neck or back pain, dizziness, sinus trouble, headaches and tinnitus. Cranial-Sacral Therapy uses the body’s own mechanisms to improve brain and spinal cord functioning which helps to reduce tension and improve overall health. It is a very gentle hands-on technique, holding appropriate points to balance the motion.

EBI: Emotional Body Integration
Patients report that in spite of the work they have done with different practitioners, they cannot retain the benefits received from previous treatments and therapies. This can be the result of emotional traumas from the past which continue to affect the functioning of the body. Through EBI, the patient is able to identify what events in their history may be unresolved and therefore preventing them from making physical progress and enjoying emotional well-being. By using muscle testing as an indicator, blocks can be found, and the clearing of the interference via chakras, subluxations or organs alleviate the dysfunction and help restore appropriate function. The procedure then helps the patient establish new positive emotional beliefs which allow the body to shed old emotional habits.
“After more than a year of constant diarrhea and following acupuncture treatments, herbal supplements, visits to an internal medicine doctor and drugs, Susan suggested a new technique that she felt would help my problems. Within a few visits improvement was significant and I have now been free of my symptoms for over a year.” – G.B.
“After three fairly serious accidents, I turned to body work to heal my consistent neck and back pain. I have seen acupuncturists, rolfers, osteopaths, cranial-sacral experts, Alexander teachers, and finally a number of chiropractors. From experience I can honestly say that Susan Brennan is one of the most powerful healers I have worked with. She is skilled, knowledgeable and holistic, and I enjoy working with her immensely. Her unique blend of chiropractic, Bowen technique, natural remedies and emotional release have helped me hold adjustments longer and retrain my neck and back muscles” – R.W.
“I thought a recent flu would have me in bed or sometime, but Dr. Brennan suggested several "miraculous" supplements that had me back among the living in a few days.
I was hiking when a mysterious pain started in my knee; one that other doctors said would ‘heal in time’. After two visits to Dr. Brennan I was greatly improved and am now pain free.” – J.J.
“I really wanted to thank you for taking such good care of me. My shoulder feels great today, you are a true healer. See you soon.” – J.S.
“Thank you for helping me. The pain in my hands is minimal now and I attribute the improvement to your treatment and the up-to-date supplements you’ve prescribed.” – M.L.
“Headaches of several days duration twice a month for 30 years now rarely occur and are brief. Persistent nighttime shoulder and knee pain and some spots in-between are non-existent. Antacids are unnecessary. Colds and flus are short lived. I have experienced all of these benefits, and then some, because Dr. Brennan is a multi-dimensional alternative health practitioner – a combination of knowledge, intuition, patience and compassion.” – E.J.
“I had migraines for over twenty years worse around my menses. I had tried the usual prescription drugs, midrin and imitriptin, with fair success but I still had to go through the pain of waking up with a migraine. Then Dr. Brennan gave me a few cranial treatments and I was completely amazed at the effectiveness. My migraines cleared up almost immediately. It is nine months since my last treatment and I still have no migraines. I remain very, very impresses with the results and highly recommend Dr. Brennan to anyone who suffers from migraines.”
