Providing for Your Well-Being
As a holistic chiropractor for the past twenty years, I utilize a multi-system approach to treatment. In addition to gentle, chiropractic adjustments, I evaluate muscular and organ function, providing appropriate exercises and nutritional recommendations.

I use a combination of Total Body Modification (TBM), Applied Kinesiology (AK), Bowen (a soft tissue technique from Australia), Biokinetics, and Cranial-Sacral work.

Metabolic Assessment
A metabolic assessment is a nutritional evaluation that helps with treatment. Our nutrition can have a dramatic effect on our bodies. This assessment helps determine the cause of body pain or problems rather than just treating the symptoms. Headaches, digestive problems or consuming too much sugar, to name a few, can stress your physiology and may result in physical pain or overall listlessness.

Contact me today for a Metabolic Assessment Form, then book an appointment and get on the road to better health and well-being.

Cholesterol: Quality not Quantity
There has been more discussion about cholesterol, as the normal value keeps being lowered, which allows the drug companies to have you begin using their products sooner. There is a lot that you can do for yourself before you choose that path. Diet is important and there are several herbs and vitamins that you can take like niacin and red rice yeast that have been shown to be effective with no bad side effects.

We know that high cholesterol is bad for you but it is more important to compare the quality of the cholesterol as well as the number for your HDL and LDL. Half the people who have normal cholesterol still suffer heart attacks so there must be other contributing factors. How much “oxidation” of cholesterol is a more important fact. By becoming oxidized there is a lot more potential for damaging the cardiovascular system. Oxidation is the effect of “electron theft” when, due to varying facts, the molecule losing an electron and becomes unstable. To regain its stability the molecule steals from other molecules. LDL cholesterol is particularly sensitive to oxidation. When an LDL becomes damaged and loses an electron the reaction can have a chain effect and thereby damage neighboring molecules. LDL is not really dangerous until it becomes oxidized. This converted molecule is known as oxysterol. It is this molecule that can damage and breakdown the vascular system. It causes increased inflammation and can lead to plaqueing. You need to know the levels of oxidation of cholesterol if you really want to protect your heart from disease.

How to test for Oxidation
Most Doctor's are not concerned with quality but more the quantity of cholesterol. There is an easy-to-use urine test that can evaluate your oxidative stress. Contact my office for more information at 510-482-8748. This data is for educational purposes only.
